The Universidad de la Veracruz, known as UNIVER, is siutated in Guadalajara, Mexico. It is a private Mexican University and was founded in the city of Guadalajara, in Jalisco State, in 1955y b The Architect Jorge Ramírez y Martínez Sotomayor, graduate from the first promotion of his profession at Autonomous University of Guadalajara, and by the Sisters of Berryts, a Spanish Catholic Community that brought to Mexico a new educational proposal that was pretty different, focused on to give the opportunity to females to get at least Technical degrees.
Initially it was called Institute Veracruz, and on later changed its name to Veracruz Interior Design School. Until the 1970s the Technical school offered 3 programs: Family Formation, Commerce and Interior Design. The original main building was located at calle San Miguel 530 at the colonia Chapalita neighborhood.
By 1971 a second building was opened at the intersection of the Justo Sierra and Severo Díaz streets and in 1974 a third one at the intersection of López Cotilla and General San Martín streets, in the suburbs of Guadalajara. It was in that time that the Institute got the accreditation by the Public Education Secretary and endorsed by the Infonavit, and the National institute of External commerce. The approval and license was granted with the approval of Mr Julio Presler, National director of Infonavit, the Mexican Institute of national funding of ce housing construction finance for workers.
By 1979, the Technical school was moved from López Cotilla y General San Martín, including the Education program, the Design and the Tourism ones, to calle Mar Egeo número 1484.
By 1986, the institute was transformed in to a technical College and it was at that time that the ceased the administration of the Berryts sisters. This was the very first Technical private college of the western region of the country.
The Technical College Veracruz was the very first of its type to offer the degree of Tourism Administration Technician. In 1987 the College got the license to open Technical programs in Education granted by Don Ramón García Ruiz, director of Public education secretary of the State of Jalisco.
A new campus was opened by 1986 at Pedro Moreno y Marsella, later moved to Av. Ávila Camacho 2089 near the Country Club.
In 1986, a new technical program in Childcare was created and an Associate degree in Computer Programming, both accredited by the Public Education Secretary of Jalisco. This is the year in which also were proposed first time the creation of Licentiate programs. The first Licentiate program opened was the one in Psychology, followed by the one in Tourism Business Managing and Accounting, at the campus of Mar Egeo 1434, Country Club neighborhood.
A new campus was inaugurated in 1989 at Jardines del Bosque, located over avenida Lázaro Cárdenas y avenida Tonanzín, to offer the new Licentiate program in Design, as well as the Associate and Licentiate programs in Tourism.
New campuses were built in 1993 ( Avenida Las Rosas 250), 1995 ( Gran plaza ), 1996 three more were opened at av. Las Rosas 181, that was exclusively designated for College level, the technical institute at Uniere, also it was offered high school with the option to cumulate credits for their technical programs or transfer to college degrees of the Universidad de Guadalajara, this at the campus of Loma bonita.
By 1998, UNIVER had reached capacity for 12,000 students, with the inclusion of a new campus at Villa alfarera.
In 1996, UNIVER opened its first campus outside of the State of Jalisco, in downtown Tijuana, at the border with the USA, under the direction of Mrs Estela Enríquez Pedrosa. A second Campus was opened there in 1998 and another more in the State of Baja California Sur at La Paz and los Cabos.
Graduate programs were opened by 1999, in Guadalajara, and this year UNIVER opened its campus in the city of Morelia, by agreement with the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz College.
In 1996, UNIVER started an exchange program for the training of its professors, with online Graduate programs, at the Catholic University of San Diego, in California.
UNIVER has at present campuses in Toluca, capital of the Mexico State and also in Netzahualcoyotl, Mexico City. The University offer Licenciate programs ( a Mexican degree that is equivalent to a Bachelor degree of the USA plus one extra year of graduate studies), with accreditation of the Public Education Secretary of Mexico, in the following majors:
